BL/45 is a lightweight containment boom designed to overcome limitations of conventional barriers. At 1.3 kg/m and with 12 m accordion-fold modules that fold to a compact footprint (45 x 70 x 45 cm), BL/45 is optimized for rapid deployment during oil-spill response. The low freeboard promotes correct water flow in the submerged section and reduces wind resistance on the exposed part.

Construction and advantages

• Fabric: polyester fabric coated on both sides with PVC compound for long-term strength.
• Float placement inside the fabric eliminates roughness on both sides, allowing easy flow of pollutants and simple cleaning.
• Simple and effective header jointing system prevents leakage of oily residues and hydrocarbons at module joints.
• Accordion-fold design allows folded modules to be moored like a buoy, avoiding removal and storage ashore in adverse sea conditions.

Maintenance
Due to its simple design and quality materials, BL/45 requires no special maintenance. After each deployment a thorough cleaning before storage is essential. Repairs may be necessary in case of tears caused by severe marine conditions.

Usage
BL/45 offers a balanced cost/performance ratio suitable for a variety of professional users in coastal and offshore operations. Standard colour is orange; other colours can be supplied for specific applications.
