OverviewLa Numero Uno (now Infinium) is presented as PERINI NAVI’s first large sailing yacht. Launched in Viareggio in 1983 with a delivery noted in 1984, she combines a steel hull with aluminium superstructure and masts. The design sought the volume and manageability of a motor yacht while retaining sailing performance, introducing several systems and layout solutions that were pioneering for large yachts of the period.
Design identityConcepted by PERINI NAVI, La Numero Uno introduced a fully automated sail-handling system integrated with captive winches and centralised controls, altering onboard operation and watchkeeping. The ketch rig, the addition of a flying bridge and hydraulically movable furnishings reflect a focus on operational efficiency, crew ergonomics and onboard comfort. Interiors were planned to provide volumes and circulation comparable to motor yachts rather than conventional sailing compromises.
Signature advancesThe steel hull delivered ocean-going stiffness and structural resilience while aluminium masts reduced weight aloft and improved balance. Automated sail management and hydraulic systems simplified handling for reduced crew requirements. Expansive teak decks and a layout that prioritised both performance and liveability made the yacht a reference for subsequent large sailing vessels. La Numero Uno was awarded the Media Sea Italia Trophy in 1987.
