A control handle is used to regulate a particular shipboard function, usually engine power.
ApplicationsThese devices control engines, bow thrusters, helms, hydraulically-operated sails and other specific on-board functions.
TechnologiesSuch controls are often connected to the engine by electrical wiring. The tilt of the handle usually dictates vessel movement, ahead or astern. The more the handle is inclined, the faster the engine turns. Among the many types of control handle are simple forward-reverse models, dual handles for independent control of two engines and those that rotate through 360° for azimuth drives.
How to chooseThe degree of control precision is the most important factor. The handle should be appropriate for the vessel's propulsion system, whether single propeller, dual propeller, azimuth drive or another arrangement.
