Studless buoy chains are purpose-built marine chains for mooring and fixing buoys, providing secure links between buoys and anchor systems for navigation, marking and mooring operations. Chain components and roles

• Bridle (saddle) chain: distributes load to the float
• Short chain: typically ~4.5 m with an odd number of links and a swivel to reduce twist
• Half chain and long chain: provide scope and catenary for mooring
• End shackles larger than connecting shackles; swivels to reduce entanglement
