The mooring winch is rotating device, generally with a horizontal shaft, used in mooring operations. NauticExpo offers a large variety of winches: hydraulic, electric, single-drum, double-drum, etc.
Mooring winches are found primarily on larger vessels whose mooring lines are too thick and heavy to be handled manually. Some have twin drums, allowing a single winch to handle two lines.
These winches are usually electrically powered, though they also may be hydraulic or hydraulic-electric. The rotating part, called the drum, stores the line as it is taken up.
Choice will depend on the type and diameter of the mooring lines. Other factors are the winch's load capacity, its deck location and power source.
