Description

Overview
Custom-made capstans designed for safe, efficient and durable mooring operations. Supplied either integrated with Quick Release Mooring Hook units or as free-standing vertical capstans, the standard range is driven by electric motors and can be adapted to vessel and quay requirements.

Capstans
A mooring capstan provides a fixed deck device to control mooring lines when a vessel approaches a berth. It guides the line from vessel to mooring point under controlled tension. Straatman supplies capstans integrated with Quick Release Mooring Hook units as well as free-standing vertical capstans that can be combined with bollards or basic quick-release hooks. With in-house production and high-tech machining, Straatman manufactures bespoke capstan constructions with many options in size, power, material and added features.

Technical specifications (standard range)
  • Nominal pull: 10–30 kN
  • Line speed: 10–30 m/s
  • Brake: mechanical (back stop)
  • Control: switch box and foot switch included
  • Preservation: DIN EN ISO 12944, category C5-M

Options
  • Custom-made design
  • Two rotation directions
  • Electrical brake
  • ATEX / IECEx / CSA / Class 1 Div 2 certified options for hazardous areas
  • Powered by an autonomous solar system

Solar powered mooring capstans
Where conventional cabling is impractical or not permitted, an autonomous solar system can power capstans to provide reliable supply without fixed cabling. For hazardous environments (e.g. LNG or oil & gas terminals), explosion-proof solar equipment certified to ATEX/IECEx standards is available to meet safety and operational requirements.

The advantages of a custom-made capstan by Straatman
