Overview
Hempel’s Silic One is a biocide-free, silicone-based fouling-release system for hulls and propellers. The system includes a two-component Conversion Primer, Silic One Tiecoat 27450 and Silic One topcoat 77450 and is suitable for conversion when existing antifouling is in good condition.

Conversion Primer

• Two-component epoxy primer enabling conversion from conventional antifouling to the Silic One fouling-release system.
• Can be applied on previously painted antifouling in good condition; mix components thoroughly to an even consistency.
• Low viscosity product: runs and sags must be brushed out immediately. Thinning is NOT recommended.
• Pot life at 20°C: 8 hours. Minimum application temperature: 5°C.

Surface preparation

• Check the condition of the existing antifouling using a metal scraper to verify adhesion.
• Remove all loose or brittle layers; abrade with wet abrasive paper where required.
• Rinse thoroughly with fresh water and allow the surface to dry completely before further application.

Tiecoat

• Hempel’s Silic One Tiecoat 27450 is a silicone-based, high-solid tiecoat designed to secure adhesion between Conversion Primer (or Light Primer) and Silic One topcoat.
• Apply Tiecoat as soon as the Conversion Primer is touch dry; full coverage is required to ensure adhesion.

Topcoat: Silic One 77450

• Biocide-free, high-solid silicone fouling-release topcoat. A hydrogel micro-layer provides a smooth, low-friction surface that reduces organism attachment on hulls and propellers.
• Indicative service life on hull: ~2 years.

Application notes

• If the overcoating interval is exceeded, reapply a coat of Conversion Primer or apply Silic One Tiecoat to secure adhesion before continuing the sequence.
• After 48 hours, clean the surface with Pre-Clean 67602, rinse with fresh water and allow to dry before applying the next coat. Overcoating should be carried out as soon as possible after drying.
• Do not dilute the Conversion Primer.
