A retractable thruster is a propeller, generally at the bow, which can be retracted into the hull when not in use.
These devices are used primarily as a bow thrusters.
Such thrusters are mounted on a pivoting platform whose underside conforms to the exterior lines of the hull. Thus, it creates no drag or disturbance when closed.
