OverviewBasto Electric, the ferry with the largest battery capacity in the world at the time of its completion, was delivered to BastoFosen on December 7, 2020. The project was designed by Norwegian Ship Design.
OperationWith a capacity of 200 cars and 600 passengers, Basto Electric began operation in early 2021 on Norway’s Moss–Horten route. The route's environmental footprint is significantly reduced thanks to the vessel's 4000 kWh battery system and charging power up to 9000 kW. In the event of electric power failure, the vessel is equipped with diesel generators with sufficient capacity to operate.
