SAILING INSTRUMENTS : S400 SERIES
Instruments are the core component of any yacht navigation system. The advanSea S400 series uses cutting edge technology to provide accurate data for cruisers or racers.
• Accuracy, optimal legibility, flexibility and ease of installation are the key benefits of the S400 series, easy intuitive operation with direct function access.
• LCD screens with wide angle viewing and super size digits for unmatched visibility. Watertight display facia (IP66); displays feature an anti-fogging coating for optimal safety even in extreme conditions.
The S400 series is available with a choice of compatible transducers manufactured by Airmar or Plastimo. The instruments can also operate as ‘stand alone’ with intelligent transducers or an NMEA0183 source.

Stingray Echo Sounder
The NASA Stingray Echo Sounders come in a slimline case with an easy to read extra bright LED display on a 4 inch dial. They both have a dual audible alarms for shallow and deep water which can be set to give two ranges either 1-25 metres or 1-100 metres, and are simplicity itself to operate. They come complete with transducer and stirrup mounting bracket and only require connection to the ships 12v power supply.
How They Work
Very simply, they make a noise and measure the echo. Knowing that sound travels at 144 metres a second through water allows us to calculate the depth by measuring the interval between the sound being made and the echo being heard. The NASA Stingray Echo Sounders have a transducer with a high quality Lead Zirconate Titanate Piezodisc crystal which creates ultrasonic 'sound' pulses at a frequency of 150kHz (imperceptible to the human ear). These pulses pass through the water and bounce back off the bottom. The returning echo pulse is then sensed by the transducer crystal. On these rotary flashing LED type sounders, a pulse is generated as the lED flashes at the 12 'o' clock position. The rotor arm is calibrated to run at a speed whereby when it flashes on receiving the returned pulse this flash will be in the correct position on the dial to indicate the correct depth.

The Depth instrument gives an easy to read display of the true depth in metres or feet. The logarithmic scales show shallower sections more clearly.

Versatility is the principle of the Bronze Depth+, Bronze Log and Trio. They are straightforward stand alone instruments if that is your requirement, but they are also fully NMEA compatible and interfaceable, if that is more appropriate to your needs. They bring all the features of far more expensive instruments into one neat package (no need for a separate control box here!) - and a number of completely unique new ideas too.
The Bronze Depth is unlike all other existing sounders - it is Multi Frequency, which means that you can select the transmit frequency to match the transducer already installed in your boat. Over 30 years of experience in sounder design and manufacture has led us to understand that installing the instrument is the easy part - the hard part is fitting the transducer in the hull and running the cable though the boat. The Bronze Depth is available with or without transducer. Other facilities include everything you could need in a sounder - depth display, depth history on a graphical display, maximum and minimum alarm, keel offset, feet or metres.
Depth, Log and Trio are fully functional GPS Repeaters, displaying Current Position, Course and Distance to Waypoint, COG and SOG. The innovative steering screen displays course to Waypoint on a simulated compass card and has an off course arrow showing course over ground. NMEA input can also be accepted from any other NMEA compatible depth or log, including our own Forward Looking Sonar. In addition, NMEA speed, log, depth and GPS information is output.

The Bronze range uses a transflective, backlit, high definition LCD matrix for maximum visibility in all conditions from bright sunlight to night time. The versatility of the matrix enables the instruments to be menu driven, rather than controlled with awkward combinations of button presses. Using a menu system the instruments can be operated simply using just two buttons. Matrices also surpass ordinary alphanumeric displays in other ways, the latter often do not have enough characters to impart all information and so show strange part digits instead.
