Overview and function:
A cable fairlead guides a cable or changes its direction to reduce wear and prevent chafing; commonly used in mooring, anchoring and cable-handling operations on vessels and marine structures.
Types described on the page:
Roller fairlead: several parallel independent rollers; open or closed arrangements. Common configurations include double, three-roller and four-roller fairleads; suitable for handling multiple lines with reduced mass, mainly on medium and large ships.
Roller winch guide: combines vertical and horizontal rollers to control cable entry from multiple directions. Available in 3-, 4-, 5-, 6-, 7- and 9-roller configurations.
Rotating (swivel) fairlead: pulley-style fairlead with tapered roller bearings in sealed-grease lubrication and a hardened rope groove for extended service life; well suited to anchor lines and rigging on sailboats and for mooring/positioning on construction vessels, tugs, oil platforms and drilling ships.
Application:
Guides mooring lines, anchor lines and other rigging to change direction without damaging the cable.
