How to choose this product
A yacht windlass is a type of power winch used to lower or raise an anchor. On NauticExpo, these items are intended for leisure craft over 15 meters long.
These devices are used to drop and raise anchors in bays or ports. They fall between small models for recreational craft and large, powerful ships windlasses.
Vertical- and horizontal-axis windlasses are powered either electrically or hydraulically. The windlass includes a wildcat, or chainwheel, whose notches hold the chain links, pulling it up as it turns. Yachts often feature double windlasses with two wildcats.
How to choose
Power is usually expressed in kW. Choice depends on the weight of the craft and that of the anchor and chain. Verify that there is enough room both on and below deck, especially for models whose motor is set into or sits beneath the deck.
