| Extruded aluminium is an excellent material for making masts. This is where Selden has earned its reputation as world leader in mast making. Today Selden offers a full range of masts and rig equipment in both aluminium and carbon including booms, spinnaker poles, Rodkicker rigid vangs, furling systems and rig linings. All rigs are custom-made, through every calculation and detail, lor each individual boat. We know how much depends on the rig, and there is no room for compromise. |
|
Selden aluminium spinnaker poles give you fast and safe spinnaker handling. All the fittings have well-rounded edges to prevent personal injury and damage to equipment. The extrusions are lightweight and very durable, and are fitted with pole savers to shield the pole against damage from forestay and shrouds.

Designed to reef or furl your mainsail, the PROFURL in-boom system provides safe reefing for your mainsail from the cockpit. The main halyard and the reefing line can also be operated from the cockpit.
Hoisting the mainsail is made easy: just turn the boat into the wind, release the furling line and pull on the halyard.
Reefing or furling is just as easy: simply control the tension on the halyard and pull the furling line.
Thanks to a number of patented design features, controlling your mainsail is a smooth operation. |
|
Selden booms have a wealth of sophisticated features and can be equipped with a variety of reefing systems to suit different boats and the needs of different sailors. The booms can be fitted for traditional slab reefing or Single Line Reef, or be used for furling masts. The boom extrusions are relatively deep in relation to their width, allowing a lighter extrusion with high resistance to vertical bending. This makes them perfect for use with modern, stiff sailcloth and efficient Rodkicker rigid vangs.

Gybe safely with Gyb'Easy, the new Wichard boom brake
Why a boom brake? Gybing remains one of the most challenging operations on a sailing boat even for experienced sailors and can possibly generate injuries and material damage. Gyb'Easy is an efficient and safe solution to reduce such risks.
Concept: Thanks to the frictions of the specific line called Gyb'Flex passing over the boom brake, the boom is allowed to gybe smoothly and without jerks. The more the line passes over the openings, the more the friction is increased and hence the brake efficiency.
Settings of the Gyb'Easy: The adjustment is made thanks to the tension of the line. 3 different positions exist for a better adaptation of the mainsail and wind conditions.
Easy installation: It takes a few minutes to install it on a eye strap of the boom. Two different fittings can be implemented to fit with all the deck configurations.

Working in the mast top needs a high grade of safety and comfort. Even if the work takes longer than estimated your seat position must be comfortable. The technical concept of the BMS Bosun´s-Chair gives you all. The thick plywood, inserted in the seat pocket is 20 mm thick and wide enough. To secure the plywood from moisture, it is welded into vinyl plastic film.
The strong 80 mm wide main webbing belt in combination with the D-ring from fireworkers safety belts guarantees a breaking load of the whole system of 1.400 Kp. Recently tested by TÜV Germany.
The adjustable leg- and shoulderbelts keep you in a safe postion even if you faint.
Side loops at the side chair carry your tools, the side pocket with Velcro closure takes smaller repair parts safely up in the mast top. If there are bigger systems to bring up into the mast top, you can click on the carry-bag, wherein the chair can be stowed away. This Bosun´s-Chair with all the new amendments has already been the test winner in lots of magazines. |

SPARS, POLES & TUBES
We have amassed a broad selection of mandrels over the years and can provide spinnaker poles, bow sprit tubes and whisker poles for just about any boat from 14 to 90 feet. |
|
Marström spars are used all over the world ranging from the Europe dinghy to the latest Americas Cup designs. We make all spars in a female mould using carbon prepreg. The spars are autoclaved in 125 degrees and at 6 bars pressure.
We produced our first carbon spar in 1985. Since then more than 4500 spars have left our factory. Our engineers and salesmen will guide the customer right through the project. We have a deep knowledge in load calculations as well as in designing custom fittings.
Our latest projects includes the mast for the Italian AC Yacht +39. Estrella Damm and Safran are two IMOCA projects that use Marstrom Spars for the Vendee Globe and the Barcelona World Race. |
|
The past 15 years have seen a major shift in spar construction from aluminium to composites. The benefits of strength, reduced weight, durability and precision engineering offered by composite construction are now well established.
|
|
We have developed our own computer controlled manufacturing method in which prepreg (pre-impregnated) tows are wound onto a mandrel (cylinder) prior to oven curing. This method enables us to exercise full control over every stage of the manufacturing process and guarantee products of consistently high quality. One of the big advantages of this Selden production method is that it enables us to achieve sufficient durability in the areas subject to the greatest loads and wear.
|
|
Hall carbon-fiber poles are manufactured using the same aerospace-quality, seamless construction process as our extraordinary masts and booms. Each pole is custom molded on a male mandrel then autoclave-cured to eliminate voids. Hall uses unidirectional, pre-preg carbon fiber for the pole's structure, resulting in maximum strength at minimum weight.
Hall Spars & Rigging spinnaker poles are made for intense sailing. Hall poles save weight on deck, are easier to handle (half the weight of aluminum), and are incredibly tough. Kevlar in key areas protects the carbon from chafe. |

RMR-Reefing masts
RMR reef masts are constantly updated and with their proven drive technology are particularly designed for sailors who need to reef the mainsail simply and safely when sailing with a small crew.
The RMR system makes it easier to handle both large and small yachts. Reefing the mainsail to the required size can be done by one person from the safety of the cockpit.
The drive for the luff rod is provided by a virtually maintenance-free hydraulic drive with self-braking worm gear, spiral bevel gears and helical drive gears in combination with a robust Danfoss hydraulic motor. |
|
Rondal constantly strives to optimise style and structural soundness. The combination of engineering and style found in our winch bases, mast/spreader connections, spreader lights and so on reflect our attention to detail. Masthead, gooseneck and many other components are designed, cut and milled with the aid of computer assisted machinery to ensure accuracy and cost-effective production. To counteract any problems associated with corrosion, Rondal welds all aluminium tangs, brackets and other fittings. When stainless parts are fitted, maximum effort is made to avoid corrosion in the future. The mastheels are constructed from plate material, either to fit in a standard Rondal maststep or on a Rondal hydraulic mastjack. All masts are completed with a two component polyurethane paint finish. Clients can choose almost every possible colour.
Made of Alustar aluminium plate
In order to bring down the weight and the centre of gravity of our aluminium masts, Rondal developed the alternative method by utilizing ALUSTAR aluminium plate material for the construction of masts.
These masts are engineered and produced to just cover the required Moments of Inertia over the full length of the mast in both longitudinal and transversal direction. |

| Hall seamless carbon spars are the perfect complement to the high-performance cruising yacht. The light weight means less pitching and motion in a seaway. It also gives the designer flexibility to put weight into the interior instead of the keel (righting moment). |
