Carbo-Link has been supplying carbon rigging solutions since 2001. CL SOLID carbon rigging is an evolution of bundled carbon solutions first developed by Carbo-Link’s management at EMPA between the 1970’s & late 1990’s. CL SOLID’s superior stiffness, enhanced resistance to chafe & impact, and reduced cross-section combined with minimal service requirements makes CL SOLID the optimum rigging choice.
CL SOLID rigging is made from continuously wound, unidirectional prepreg carbon fibre tape embedded in a toughened resin matrix. CL SOLID rigging is cured into a solid cable, either round or elliptical (CL ELLIPSE). All prepreg tape is made in-house in accordance to Aerospace certified processes; optimizing fibre type & tape width whilst ensuring the perfect fibre alignment. CL SOLID features fully integrated titanium terminations custom engineered & manufactured in-house.
CL SOLID, CL ELLIPSE & CL HYBRID rigging is DNV GL Type Approved.
- Structural properties last 15+ years with proper maintenance
- Never send rigging away for inspection, service, recovering
- Toughened resin system for superior chafe & impact protection
- Impact load is distributed, loss in load & stiffness is negligible
- Up to 35% smaller cross-section vs bundled carbon rigging
- 100% fibre consolidation = no gaps, no additional covers
- Design optimized for exact requirements
- No bonded joints, no reliance on threaded terminations
- Nothing hiding beneath the cover - visual inspection shows rigging health
- Possible to NDT at any time, mast stepped or unstepped
- Stiffness drives cable diameter, loads drive fitting size
- Highly optimised solution for your exact demands
- Grounded & able to unload charge with direct connections
- No insulators along cable length = no static build-up
- Materials comparable to a yacht's hull structure
- Original properties sustained over 15+ years
- Numerical analysis & experience suggests 2.0:1 or less aspect ratio
- Aspect ratio highly customised for each cable section & every project
The following service intervals are recommended, though the depth and periodicity should be considered:
- Sailing miles endured by the standing rigging
- Operating conditions the rigging has experienced
- Routine inspections/maintenance to be carried out on the mast
- Inspection intervals specified by insurance and/or classification bodies
All carbon components and integrated terminations can be inspected & serviced onsite. CL SOLID rigging never needs to be sent away for service.
- Comprehensive visual inspection to be done regularly by yacht's crew
- Including (but not limited to) the following: pre & post deliveries, after every race day, after periods of heavy motoring
- Careful inspection of all cable terminations and free length spans, including spreader bends
- Any concerns raised with Carbo-Link
- Comprehensive visual inspection to be carried out annually by a Carbo-Link technician
- Similar to a Regular Visual Inspection but with the mast jacked down, if possible, to allow for more detailed interfacing inspections
- Carbo-Link will prepare a detailed report for ship's records
- Full service to coincide with the mast service, to be carried out by a Carbo-Link technician
- Mast unstepped, rigging undressed and stripped onsite
- Thorough visual inspection of integrated fitting and free length spans
- Removal of hardware components (pins, toggles etc) to be NDT’ed
- NDT cable terminations if deemed necessary
