The tuna seiner is used by professionals working in tuna fisheries. It has an elongated bow, a forward pilothouse, a crow's nest for sighting fish, booms for net handling and stern ramps for handling the panga.
The seiner not only catches tuna, but can also freeze and stock large quantities of fish in its holds.
Tuna seiners are specially equipment for their work. They have fish wells where the tuna are stored in a brine solution. Once full, the well is drained and held at -20°C. These vessels carry video gear, as well as low- and high-frequency sonar for scanning the surrounding waters.
