Sun Marine Seats

The origins of Sun Marine Seats date back to the 1970s, when the son of an
inland waterway skipper designed a luxurious captain’s seat for his father.
Working at an automotive parts store that sold RECARO aftermarket car seats,
he recognized the potential of adapting these premium seats for marine use. This
marked the beginning of our company. From day one, our focus has been—and
continues to be—crafting a superior captain’s seat. Today, the original concept
has evolved into a full range of models, all built around genuine RECARO
automotive seats. Every custom component required to transform a car seat into
a fully certified marine seat is designed and produced by, or exclusively for, Sun
Marine Seats.
In 1998, Victor Willems transformed this concept into a dedicated, professional
business. Initially, our RECARO seats were supplied through the importer
Sluyter, which later became part of Hella. When Hella discontinued the
RECARO product line, RECARO’s sales manager approached us directly to
explore a direct partnership with RECARO in Germany. This opportunity
marked the beginning of a close and long-lasting collaboration with RECARO—
later known as RECARO Automotive. We ultimately became RECARO’s
official license partner for the marine industry.
Today, Sun Marine Seats has an extensive global network of dealers and
importers, and the names RECARO and Sun Marine Seats have become
inseparably linked within the marine world.
