About Us
The story of Aquadesign is a true entrepreneurial epic that perfectly illustrates passion and innovation in the field of water sports and outdoor activities. Founded in 1988 by Terry Barbier, the brand quickly established itself as a reference in the development of white-water rafting in France and Europe, introducing this then little-known sport to the continent after an inspiring discovery in the United States. It was the start of an adventure that, more than three decades later, continues to develop and innovate.
From its earliest beginnings, Aquadesign has shown a willingness to push the boundaries, starting with the creation of the first raft, the Advantage, which marked the official launch of European rafting. The rapid expansion of the brand saw its premises move from Terry's garage to Montreuil and then to Corbières, bringing it closer to the nature and waterways that are the essence of its business.
The arrival of Inge Waes Barbier in the team has strengthened the family spirit of Aquadesign and contributed to the expansion of its range with the creation of innovative lifejackets and diversification into inflatable canoes and kayaks. Each year has brought its share of innovations, from the introduction of K-air inflatable kayaks, to the launch of tubing, to the entry into the inflatable Stand Up Paddle market with the Rolling model, which benefits from double-layer technology.
Aquadesign's commitment to innovation and quality has also been underlined by its role as an official partner of international competitions, such as the World Rafting Championships, reinforcing its position as a leader in the water sports sector.
Aquadesign's path has been marked by continuous growth, requiring the expansion of its warehouse to meet growing demand, and by the introduction of new products, such as the Giants in Stand Up Paddle, capable of accommodating up to 8 people, or the Sedna and Koloa kayaks, adapted for the general public.
In 2023, Aquadesign celebrated 35 years in business, an anniversary marked by a significant expansion of its storage space and a nostalgic reflection on how far it has come. From its humble beginnings to its current status as a European leader in rafting, canoeing, hydrospeed, canyoning and stand-up paddling, Aquadesign embodies an exceptional success story, symbolising a spirit of adventure, constant innovation and an unwavering passion for water sports.
