Description

Original name: Normand Aurora. A relatively large platform supply vessel of the ULSTEIN P105 design, designed to carry a payload of close to 5,000 tonnes, of which 2,840 tonnes is deck cargo. The vessel features a diesel-electric propulsion system. It was the first vessel of an Ulstein design to be built outside Ulstein’s own yard. Classifications: DNV+1A1, SF, E0, DYNPOS-AUTR, CleanDesign, NAUT-OSV(A), COMF-V(3), DK(+), HL(+), ICE-C, OffshoreServiceVessel Ulstein Group has a history dating back to 1917, but a major change took place in 1999, when parts of the company were sold. A clause in the sales agreement meant that Ulstein’s ship designs could not be sold for construction outside its own yard for five years, i.e. until 2004. The first ULSTEIN design to be built externally after this was Normand Aurora, delivered from the Dutch shipyard Merwede in 2005. All design drawings were delivered by Ulstein Design & Solutions AS, together with a comprehensive equipment package. "It was important for Merwede that Ulstein’s design company is closely linked to an active shipyard. They work closely with the yard, from which they receive continuous feedback. In this way, a design can evolve in line with the yard’s input and requirements," said Peter van der Poel, project manager at Merwede. With a history dating back to 1902, Normand Aurora was the first vessel built at the yard that had not been designed in-house. Today, the yard forms part of Royal IHC. In June 2017, Deep Sea Supply, Solstad Shipping and Farstad Shipping merged into one company, which from 1 October 2018 took the name Solstad Offshore.
