OverviewThe Motion Gyro Compass (MGC) is a maintenance-free, IMO type approved gyro compass that can operate as a stand-alone compass or as an IMU/INS within other navigation or control systems. The MGC combines KONGSBERG's Motion Reference Unit (MRU) with gyro compass sensors to deliver heading, attitude and heave data that meet navigational requirements.
Available variants- MGC R1 Compass — Gyro Compass (stand-alone)
- MGC R2 — Gyro Compass and INS
- MGC R3 — Gyro Compass and INS
- MGC R4 — Gyro Compass and INS
- MGC R5 — Gyro Compass and INS
Comparison (selected specifications)- Roll/pitch (unaided): R1 0.05°; R2 0.02°; R3 0.01°; R4 0.008°; R5 0.008°
- Heave (real-time): R1 10 cm (18 s); R2–R5 5 cm (18–25 s)
- Heading (GNSS aided): R1 0.2°; R2 0.1°; R3 0.04°; R4 0.02°; R5 0.008°
- Free inertial (GNSS aided) drift: R1 N/A; R2 5 nm/h; R3 2 nm/h; R4 0.4 nm/h; R5 0.25 nm/h DRMS
Product contextThe MGC family integrates motion sensing (MRU) and gyro compass functionality and is designed for vessels and systems requiring precise heading, attitude and heave measurements. Units can be deployed as stand-alone gyro compasses for shipboard navigation or integrated as IMU/INS modules in larger navigation, automation or motion-compensation systems.
Technical specifications- Maintenance-free design.
