IntroductionThe HAPPY CAT STAR CARBON is an ultra-light, high-strength inflatable sailing catamaran made fully from carbon. It is up to 25% lighter than other HAPPY CAT models, enabling effortless handling on land and outstanding sailing performance on the water. Developed from decades of experience and customer feedback with state-of-the-art technology, the STAR CARBON is positioned as the most advanced HAPPY CAT to date.
Key selling points- World first: series-produced inflatable catamaran fully made of carbon.
- Ultra-light carbon profiles give high strength, late tipping point and excellent responsiveness to weight shifts.
- Easy single-person righting after capsize due to lightweight construction.
- Designed for sporting use, coastal waters and multi-day tours; suitable for single-handed sailing.
Transport & PackingThe STAR CARBON comes with multiple specially designed bags for optimal protection and flexible transport options. The heaviest bag is 19 kg. The catamaran can alternatively be packed into two pack-bags with wheels for convenient transport by car, campervan or even commercial flight.
- 2 pack-bags with wheels: 185 x 30 x 30 cm
- 1 pack-bag mast (for 4 mast sections): 170 x 38 x 17 cm
- 1 protection bag for sail: 180 x 30 cm
- 1 pack-sack for hulls: 80 x 45 x 28 cm
Design & StructureThe carbon frame uses high-tech one-piece CNC corner pieces and an integrated groove for easy trampoline tensioning. Square plug-in connections prevent frame twisting. Carbon reinforcing bow braces reduce hull flex and drag. The 4-piece carbon mast weighs only 9 kg and features tightly fitting joints to make it virtually watertight for brief flotation after capsize.
Hull & PerformanceThe 480 cm wave-piercing convex hulls were developed in tow-tank testing to minimize spray and resistance and maximize speed. The pointed bow increases buoyancy on the foredeck and reduces drag; optimized stern improves water separation. The hull material is durable Grabner car tire rubber (1100 dtex EPDM) — robust, long-lived and PVC/phthalate-free.
Sails & RiggingHigh-performance laminate sails: 8.0 m² square-head mainsail (boomless design) and 3.5 m² jib. Laminate fabric is low-stretch and should be stored rolled (avoid creases). The jib has an endless furler for easy furling/unfurling. Double shrouds and an additional forestay provide stability; 4-point rigging of the carbon bowsprit improves rig stability.
Handling & On-water Features- Long centerboard (deep) for improved upwind performance; automatic release on ground contact and quick adapter for fast mounting.
- Kick-up rudder positioned far aft for precise, low-effort steering; two locking positions (fully lowered / fully raised); automatic release on ground contact.
- Mast foot joint permits single-person raising/lowering; rotates with the sail to ensure optimum sail profile.
- Telescopic tiller extension included as standard for better control while riding out.
Optional & AccessoriesWide range of optional equipment to customize for different uses: seat cushions, slip wheels, bow cover & net, stern-deck, furling-booster, strong-wind sails, trapeze, motor bracket, electric motor options, sun awning, tarpaulin, waterproof bags and more. Motor bracket optimized for light motors up to 3 HP (22 kg), compatible with long- or short-shaft motors.
Care & Maintenance- After salt water use: rinse thoroughly with fresh water.
- Sun protection: use tarpaulin and reduce hull pressure when covered.
- Sail care: protect laminate sails from intense UV; store rolled without creases in sail bag.
