Description

Jewel of the Seas was the fourth and last cruise ship in the Radiance Class that MEYER WERFT built for Royal Caribbean International. It was delivered to the shipping company in May 2004. MEYER WERFT introduced several innovations to the cruise ships in the Radiance Class – starting with their innovative super yacht design and streamlined hull. Other new and spectacular features include the glazed areas on board all four cruise ships in the fleet – Radiance of the Seas, Brilliance of the Seas, Serenade of the Seas and Jewel of the Seas. These combine with the panoramic glass elevators and glazed roof in the pool area to ensure passengers can enjoy stunning views of the land, sky and sea from almost anywhere on board. Further highlights are the climbing wall and atrium in the middle of the vessel, which extends across nine decks. All four ships in the Radiance Class were constructed at our shipyard between 1998 and 2004. Their drive system is innovative and environmentally friendly: The new turbo-electric machinery – consisting of gas and steam turbines – significantly reduces nitrogen oxide emissions. The pod drive, which was new at the time, also ensures considerable fuel savings and improves the ships’ manoeuvrability.
