Your suggestions for improvement:
A windsurf boom is an oval-shaped device that envelops and tensions the sail and provides a handhold for controlling the rig when sheeting out or in, heading up, falling off and performing other maneuvers.
ApplicationsAlong with mast and sail, the wishbone boom is one of the three essential elements of windsurfer rigging. Both competition and recreational windsurfers, wave, slalom and freeride models all have booms.
TechnologiesMost booms are composed of two interconnected parts. The forward element serves as a handle. The aft part slides into it and allows its length to be adjusted to the size of the sail.
Booms offered on NauticExpo are generally made of aluminum, though some are carbon or carbon/aluminum hybrids. Carbon is light, stiff and highly reactive, but breaks more easily than aluminum. An adapter can be used to rig the boom to a reduced diameter mast (RDM).
Surfing style, typical conditions and sail size will determine the choice of an appropriate windsurfer boom. In order to maintain sufficient stiffness, the boom should not be used in the fully-extended position. Select a model substantially longer than your largest sail. Having two booms of different size is an even better solution. Race, freeride and other types of windsurfing will also affect choice of boom, as well as sail size.
