TechnologiesThere are several different types of davit. Rotary models may not be used for launching lifeboats. Pivoting versions have an arm which moves up and down. Gravity types use the weight of the small craft to lower it into the water. Telescopic models have two extending arms that lift the boat outboard of the rail before launching it.
How to chooseFirst and foremost, the davit must respect SOLAS/IMO regulations. Choice also will depend on the amount of installation space available on deck, the expected frequency of launch/recovery operations and the type of craft to be handled.
