How to choose this product
Sailing trousers protect the lower half of the sailor's body from wind, spray and cold.
While these garments are not necessary when sailing in warm, sunny climes, they become essential for winter sailing or in colder regions. They should be carried by all blue-water cruisers in case of foul weather.
Some sailing pants are overalls with suspenders, while others stop at the waist. They are made from water-repellent fabric or a breathable material, such as Gore-Tex®. Seams, too, should be waterproof. Cuffs can have Velcro® closures or be of neoprene to keep water out. Pockets are sometimes fleece-lined. Light, flexible versions are designed for recreational sailing.
How to choose
Choice of garment will depend on intended use. They run the gamut from light pants for daysailing or for use in good weather to heavy, warm models for extreme conditions. Breathable pants are ideal for racing since they do not trap perspiration, thus leaving the skin dry.
