A great majority of booties are made of neoprene, a supple, elastic material which dries quickly and offers excellent thermal protection. They are designed to be worn with adjustable fins with a heel strap.
Many have a zipper along the side to facilitate putting them on, and most have a non-slip sole. Some feature a camouflage pattern resembling seabed shapes and colors to help spearfishers approach their prey undetected. Thickness will determine the degree of thermal protection.
The colder the water, the thicker the booties should be. Shoe size and fin type are the other determining factors.
