In contrast to the quick surge of power that is required for starting, deep cycle batteries are called upon to deliver smaller amounts of current over long periods of hours or days, rather than seconds.
While DEKA deep cycle batteries can deliver plenty of starting power, they are specifically designed to withstand the special rigors of long, deep discharges and long, slow recharges. These super deep discharges and recharges can literally tear ordinary batteries apart from the inside. Sitting in a discharged condition causes the battery to corrode on the inside, just like iron rusts and corrodes
in the salt air. If not recharged promptly and properly, the plates in a battery can disintegrate and fall apart in short order. BEP Galvanic Isolators provide galvanic isolation from other boats and the dock when your boat is plugged into shore power. This will protect against zinc wastage and dock caused corrosion. BEP Galvanic Isolators include full time status monitoring on the case of the unit with the addition of a receptacle to receive a remote indicator.

In the starting mode, a gas or diesel marine engine (inboard, outboard or auxiliary type) places a demand for high amperage, or starting current, to “crank the engine” up to starting RPM. This high starting current must be delivered quickly month after month after month. Otherwise, the engine cranks too slowly and may not start at all...especially if the battery has been sitting for long periods, is extremely hot, has been drained by an auxiliary load, or the engine is in an untuned condition. In any event, you can’t start. All you can do is float.
