The snap hook is a fitting allowing two lines to be passed through its opening without the need for special measures. Swivel shackles or those with a closed eye require a splice or a knot at the end of the line to which they are attached.
Expected load and intended use will determine choice of snap hook. It should be remembered that some opening systems are prone to accidental attachment to a line or cable during maneuvers.
