A boat stanchion is a long, thin post, usually of metal, used to support the craft's lifelines.
Boat stanchions are metal posts mounted vertically around the edge of the deck or on either side of a gangway or ladder. They have eyes or holes through which the lifelines pass. They can be permanent or movable, and can be reinforced by braces.
Choice will depend on the size of the boat and the diameter of the lines, chains or cables to be supported.
