TechnologiesSuch lights use LED, halogen, incandescent and, sometimes, fluorescent bulbs. They generally are designed to emit diffuse, rather than directional light, and to consume as little energy as possible, since they often remain on for long periods. Design options are numerous, including round, elongated or other shapes. Materials include, wood, steel, aluminum and plastic, which may or may not be painted or finished in some other manner.
How to chooseChoice will depend on bulb type, electrical system and vessel decor. LEDs consume the least energy, but light quality may lack warmth. Traditional incandescent bulbs emit a very agreeable light, but use a lot of energy. Fluorescents are very economical but give off a harsh, cold light.
Halogens may be the least suitable. They emit a very strong light and are known for their high energy consumption. The fixture voltage must match that of the vessel (12, 24, 110 or 220 V). Style and materials should be chosen to match other on-board elements. There are fixtures of wood and other constituents in traditional, modern and other styles.
