OverviewThe wallyrocket71 project aims to deliver a cutting-edge maxi racing yacht that pushes performance and innovation on the race circuit. The design prioritizes speed, agility and rapid manoeuvrability across a wide range of conditions.
Design and PerformanceThe wallyrocket71 features twin rudders, a high-performance bulb keel and 2.7 t of water ballast. Slightly smaller than Maxi 72-class yachts, it achieves around 2 tonnes of weight reduction, enabling a smaller keel and a marginally shorter rig. The result is improved response in light airs and quicker reaction to gusts while maintaining upwind competitiveness.
Water Ballast & HandlingWater ballast is approximately 35% heavier than some competitors, but systems allow the full 2.7 t to be transferred from side to side in about six seconds. This enables short, fast tacks and agile handling in race manoeuvres. Sea trials report expected upwind speeds of 10.5–11.0 knots and strong downwind performance, often matching or exceeding wind speed.
VersatilityThe yacht is designed for uncompromising versatility. Rather than optimize solely for upwind or downwind sailing, the wallyrocket71 is engineered to perform at its best on any course and in varied race scenarios.
Team & BuildThis project is the result of collaboration between the Wally team, Botin Partners (naval architecture) and King Marine (builder).
