Fishing trawler special vessel ECOFIVE

ECOFIVE is a factory trawler designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions AS. The design development has focused on gentle handling of the catch and the lowest possible energy consumption. The award-winning vessel was delivered on 26 February 2025. The ECOFIVE concept stands for "ECO-friendly Fishing Vessel" and aims to achieve 100% catch utilisation, minimise quality losses during handling, and reduce energy consumption. The fishing vessel features numerous innovations that address these goals. These solutions can be implemented individually or combined in future fishing vessels. The ECOFIVE concept for sustainable fishing - Ulstein The trawler will primarily be used for shrimp and whitefish trawling. Ulstein has developed a battery-hybrid propulsion solution that is expected to substantially reduce diesel consumption and emissions. This is solved by improving the efficiency of a wide range of power requirements. Hybrid propulsion system - Can give a boost for future emission reduction in the fishing fleet - Ulstein The trawler is Ulstein’s first realised design for a fishing vessel. Also, it includes an equipment package delivered by Ulstein Design & Solutions AS, comprising switchboards, drives, batteries, IAS, PMS, and EMS. Service engineers from Ulstein Power & Control followed up on the equipment start-up.
