OverviewTransom-mounted hydrogenerator system to produce onboard electricity while sailing. The SWI-TEC Hydro Charger combines water-driven generation and optional solar input to maintain battery charge on cruising and passagemaking yachts.
Videos and demonstrations- Installation and operation videos available on the product page.
Charger / Converter- Recommended total system power: 1000 W (recommended mix: hydrogenerator 600 W + PV 400 W).
- Compatible with 12 V / 24 V systems (automatic detection).
- Programmable voltage limits (e.g. 14.4 V / 28.8 V).
- Maximum charging current: 40 A (20 A at 24 V).
- Quiescent current: ≤ 45 mA.
- Default charge voltage: 12.44 V (adjustable).
- Battery full voltage programmable (example: 16 V / 32 V).
- Minimum disconnect voltage: 11 V / 22 V.
- Programmable charger-converter with digital display.
- Solar panel input up to 400 W / 16 A.
- 12 V user output for inverter (220 V / 50 Hz) to charge portable devices.
- Electronic overload/regeneration braking of the propeller programmable when batteries are full.
Generator- Quiet operation, virtually inaudible in the water.
- Low minimum rpm requirement thanks to optimized gearing and transformation.
- High efficiency from special conversion and hydrodynamic profile.
- Clutch separates propeller from drivetrain: no transmission wear or propeller vibration.
- Sealing: two O-rings each side.
- Anodized aluminium housing with special plastic cover.
- Optimized aluminium profile; all fasteners in A4 stainless steel.
- Easy to disassemble for maintenance or repair.
- Starts charging from approximately 4 knots (depends on boat type and blade setting).
Propeller- Main components in special engineering plastic.
- Aluminium blades fixed with hot lacquer.
- Pre-set pitch according to boat type and speed.
- Individual blades replaceable (e.g. after collision).
- MFN-calculated blade geometry for optimal shape and twist.
Electronic regulator- Adjustable up to 16 / 32 V to compensate voltage drop.
- Integrated freewheel: propeller spins freely when max voltage reached.
- Additional input for solar panel or small wind generator.
- Direct-use connection (automatic engagement when charge sufficient).
- Features: digital display, optional freewheel switch, alarm for fully charged battery.
Transom mount and brackets- Robust stainless steel construction (V4A / AISI 316 for key parts).
- Adjustable mount to match transom angle so the generator enters water vertically.
- Base plate and heavy-duty counterplate (also available separately).
- Locking system allows secure locking/unlocking of the support.
- Demultiplied lowering system for deployment and retrieval while sailing (e.g. 1:4 reduction, locking in the water).
- Generator locks in working position without load on the lifting line; can be released quickly by a secondary red line for retrieval or in case of collision.
- Side stops prevent contact with the hull; ergonomic shape.
- Mounting options: standard transom bracket, additional transom plate (approx. 260 x 70 x 30 mm, ~2 kg), platform mount (stainless steel, approx. 290 x 64 x 254 mm), pivoting bracket to keep unit perpendicular to the water.
Performance and dimensions- Electrical output: approximately 50–600 W depending on boat speed and battery state of charge.
- Main unit (without bracket): 1100 x 100 mm; propeller diameter: 360 mm.
- Charger unit dimensions: 278 x 133 x 75 mm; charger weight: 1.6 kg.
- Complete system weight (generator, charger, propeller and main bracket): approx. 15 kg.
- Operating environment: ambient temperature 10°C to 50°C; relative humidity 0–90%.
Delivery contents- Complete set: generator, charger, main transom bracket, connector, propeller and transom support.
Available accessories- Set of 3 replacement blades.
