Whilst she is primarily a cruising yacht, in 2023 a Spirit 50 took part in the famous Fastnet Race and proved her worth when it comes to long distance offshore sailing. The 695 mile race from Cowes to Cherbourg via the Fastnet Rock off southern Ireland is world-renowned as a test for any sailor and for its often harrowing weather. The 2023 race was no different and the attrition rate was extremely high. However, the Spirit 50, Io of Dartmouth, steadfastly stood up to the challenge and gave her owners and crew a once in lifetime adventure.
