Balsa solid lumber, an exceptionally soft and lightweight wood, is often used for fishing floats and modeling.
Kind Balsa wood
Specific weight 100/120 Kg/m3 ca.
What it is and what it is for
Balsa solid wood refers to square edged flitches with uniform thickness and length. It is useful as a lightweight construction material for fishing floats and many common modeling applications. It comes from Ecquador.
In spite of its low specific weight, it is remarkably strong, with a compression strength of over 100 kg/ cm², due to the alveolar structure of balsa wood.
Uses
Balsa wood is the lightest wood in the world. Solid wood Balsa is traditionally used by modelers for its high strength-to-weight ration and the ease with which it is worked.
