The aft area is often fitted with a flight deck for the take-off and landing operations of one mediumsized helicopter. Typical features of such vessels are the extensive range as well as sea-keeping and manoeuvrability performances, which make them highly flexible from the operational point of view. Among the outstanding ships built by Fincantieri, the three-masted schooners “Orietta" and her sister ship "Fiammetta" deserve attention since they were the last sailing ships built in Italy for commercial trade. Moreover, their hull construction (nearly 4D métrés in length) was really the swan song of building in wood. Uood and copper nails made the two schooners the idéal platforms for magnetic mine-sweeping, using their small auxiliary engine. Indeed, both ships were taken over by Italian Navy and served in Word Uar 2 for this purpose.
