FIRE FIGHTER II
42.67 m (139'11")
The FIRE FIGHTER II is the sister vessel to the THREE FORTY THREE. Like her companion, the FIRE FIGHTER II provides the New York City Fire Department Marine Division with the latest and most up to date technology available and have more safety tools and survival equipment on board than any other boat in the FDNY fleet.
The vessel is capable of protecting firefighters from Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear agents (CBRN) and is equipped with an air filtration system to protect responding members if a harmful agent should become airborne. Assistance on the design of the CBRN system was provided by engineers from the U.S. military’s Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense and Naval Sea Systems Command, United States Navy.
The addition of a forward ballast tank allows the boat to lower itself in the water in order to match its deck level with that of the large Staten Island ferries and permit ease of boarding onto the ferry by firefighters and other emergency responders as well as the safe transfer of passengers onto the fireboat should the ferry need to be evacuated. The fireboat’s normal deck level will be higher to allow the vessel to achieve its maximum speed without having its decks wet while underway.
