Description

Derecktor Shipyards, known worldwide for producing high-quality aluminum yachts and commercial vessels, recently showed off the yards versatility with the launching of the F/V Laura Beth. The 82-foot steel lobster boat was designed for the Little Bay Lobster Co. by Washburn and Doughty Assoc. Naval Architects. Newington NH based Little Bay is the largest harvester of Gulf of Maine lobster in the world and operates a fleet of 11 vessels, which work year round in the demanding offshore environment of the Gulf of Maine and Georges Bank. Little Bay owner John Shafmaster, in business for over 25 years, chose Derecktor for their “excellent reputation, quality of their work and competitive price.” Upon delivery he observed that “they build a quality product and it is still a functional work boat” and that the vessel is now “the best in the fleet”. The Laura Beth is the first in Little Bay’s lobster boat fleet to be fitted with chilled and aerated brine tanks. Derecktor General Manager Gavin Higgins commented that the job “was very satisfying- we’re confident they have gotten a boat that will give many years of reliable and efficient service”. F/V Laura Beth underwent trials on LI Sound prior to departing for her new duties in New England, where she will support the harvesting of the highest quality fresh caught offshore lobster in the industry.
