Description

‘The Princess Royal’ which had the honour to be christened by her namesake is the first of the exciting new Wave Discoverer class to be delivered by Alnmaritec. This new Marine Research boat is packed with innovative features; she has a unique deep vee hull form with bulbous bows developed by the University of Newcastle, she has a large moon pool, a wind farm transfer bow station, subsurface viewing ports, a bird and mammal survey station and on deck she carries a 6.5 tonne metre knuckle boom crane, a 2 tonne hydraulic A-frame, two trawl winches, a pot hauler two ROV winches and as a 5m RIB. She has a spacious wheelhouse with 6 survey stations and a large mess facility and below decks she has sleeping accommodation for two crew. She has twin 610bhp engines and twin hydraulic bow thrusters making her extremely manoeuvrable and she is designed to be able to take the bottom if so required. She packs an amazing amount into a 19m boat making her a versatile and truly exceptional platform for marine research operations.
