How to choose this product
A strainer is a rounded, somewhat convex fitting covering a vessel's seawater intakes, facilitating pumping and filtering the water. Most are supplied as an integral part of a through-hull fitting.
These devices are mounted on engine cooling water or marine toilet intakes.
NauticExpo offers strainers made of brass, bronze, extra-sturdy plastic or stainless steel. Their round or oval convex shape prevents cavitation at high speed and guarantees proper pump function under all conditions.
While certain models have other uses (e.g., ROV propulsion systems), most are designed for through-hull installation, with valve and, in some, a backflow preventer. Diameter and threading differ. Some models are in the form of an elbow, while others include a grounding ring.
How to choose
Choice will depend on specific use and constituent material, which should be compatible with that of the hull to avoid electrolysis. The diameter of the through-hull and of the hose to be connected to it are also important. In the absence of sufficient space within the hull, an elbow fitting should be considered.
