How to choose this product
A handheld thermometer is a portable device for measuring wind speed.
Small, light and quite reliable, they are ideal for race organizers and dinghy sailors. They can also be used on land when raising large even tents, kite-flying and for other activities.
A wheel is propelled by cups or propeller blades driven by the wind. The wheel's rotational velocity is read on a screen in a digital system or a graduated scale on analog devices, indicating wind speed. The unit of measurement can be knots, the Beaufort scale (force 1 to 12) or meters/second, among others.
Certain anemometers are veritable miniature weather stations capable of indicating atmospheric pressure and temperature. Some can even be used as compasses and altimeters. An ergonomic handle affords a firm grip. For accurate measurement, the unit must be held away from any source of turbulence.
- Small and practical
- Reliable if used properly
- Can be used at sea or on land
- Subject to nearby turbulence
- The wheel is often fragile
