A foot air pump can be used to inflate dinghies, air mattresses or other equipment by repeated foot action.
ApplicationsThese devices are useful for blowing up small inflatable tenders, air mattresses, various beach toys and fenders.
TechnologiesThe pump consists of two plates separated by a spring and enclosed in a flexible, airtight membrane. When one of the plates is depressed, the air within the membrane is forced out through the fill tube. When the foot is removed, the spring forces the plates apart, creating suction which fills the membrane again. Valves control the direction of air flow.
Some models can suck air from an inflatable tender to speed its deflation. Such pumps usually come with a selection of end fittings to enable use with a variety of inflatable equipment. A clip or cord is used to stow the pump in the closed position.
- Rapid, efficient inflation
- Standing position requires less effort
- Use requires a flat surface
- Unsuitable for inflating large tenders
