How to choose this product
Buoyancy bags are flexible, inflatable devices placed within a vessel to increase its buoyancy.
Applications
Such equipment can be used in kayaks, canoes, sailing dinghies or any other open boat that might take on water. It makes a vessel safer by rendering it nearly unsinkable.
Technologies
Most of these devices are air- and watertight PVC or polyurethane bags with an inflation fitting. Standard models are designed to fit the typical kayak or other craft, but some are made-to-order. They must withstand abrasion, the main cause of wear.
How to choose
Choice will depend on type of vessel. In general, several bags are distributed throughout the hull to ensure buoyancy in case of a leak or capsize. Other factors include the spaces available for installation and the presence of deck plates or other anchoring fittings.
Advantages
- Unsinkable
Disadvantages
- Take up space
