Utile or Sipo is often considered the best among the African Redwoods. The heartwood has a beautiful red brownish colour. The species are very stable and durable (Class II). Crossgrain gives little if any problems. The weight is about 700 kg/m3. Sipo logs can have sizeable diameters. Available in logs, boules, square edged lumber, plywood and veneer.
