It features a teak kick-up rudder and pivoting bronze centerboard. A removable bowsprit and jib is also available.
This rowing sailboat handles and performs superbly under sail in both light and high winds. The hull shape forward produces a lift effect when gunnel down, hard on the wind. This makes it harder to drive the gunnel under and keeps the interior dry. Off the wind the Westcoast just scoots along and is a joy to be aboard.
The sailing model is also available with an optional slide seat unit which adds the ability to use the boat for getting a full body workout doing slide seat sculling. Other options include a solid teak floor or a fully buoyant "Ocean Tender" floor making it virtually unsinkable and ideal for use offshore on larger yachts.
It can even carry a small outboard motor but this boat rows and sails so well a motor is rarely fitted.
