Sailboat in-boom furling system
LEISURE FURL
Southern Spars
The Leisure Furl is an open end boom designed with a smaller luff ramp profile than the Southern Furl and has the hydraulic drive system positioned at the out-board end. The boom is distinctive in appearance for its defined lines and smooth surfaces.
Benefits of the Leisure Furl:
*Open end boom eliminates the need for a front bulkhead, providing the following advantages:
-mainsail is free to roll onto the furling mandrel without obstruction
-no chance of luff tape damage against a bulkhead
-furling position is not as sensitive to the boom angle as with other systems
-furling operations can be carried out in full view of the crew
*The small luff ramp profile reduces windage and means less luff curve is required in the mainsail
*A flexi feeder which leads the luff tape into the luff ramp
*Hydraulic drive system is located at the out board end for easy access.
*Leisure Furl can be retrofitted to increase sail area, upgrade sail handling systems and improve weight distribution
