LNG carriers transport liquefied natural gas at a carriage
temperature of -163 °C. In this high value-added ship
market, Samsung Heavy Industries has maintained a
dominant position as an industry leader.
In 2001, Samsung Heavy Industries once again proved
its technological prowess with the construction of an
‘electric-powered LNG carrier,’ a next-generation
type carrier with excellent operation capabilities and high
fuel efficiency. In 2008-2009, Samsung Heavy
Industry further cemented its reputation as a world leader
by building the world’s largest 266,000㎥-class LNG carrier.
Samsung Heavy Industries continues to focus on the
development of innovative new ships such as ice-breaking
LNG tankers for the Arctic route and LNG-FSRU (Liquefied
Natural Gas Floating Storage and Regasification Units).
