Rochem RO-Wasserbehandlung

Biological waste water treatment system for ships
BIO-FILT Rochem RO-Wasserbehandlung

Bio-Filt® plants are designed and manufactured by Rochem for the purification of black water, consisting of toilet and galley effluents. The plant\'s treatment system comprises two stages of processing, bioreactor segments and Ultra-Filtration FM modules.

After being mechanically cleansed of solid material and fibres by a pre-filtration unit, the effluent waste water to be purified is fed into the Bio-Filt bioreactor. Micro-organisms are able to convert organic matter into CO2 and water under aerobic conditions.
The biologically treated waste water is then diverted and pumped into an external circulation system (modules with FM ultra-filtration membranes), which operates as an absolute barrier to bacteria, viruses, colloids and macro-molecules. The generated filtrate diffuses through the membranes.
Three streams emerge from the Bio-Filt waste water treatment system:

the filtrate stream from the UF section (purified water) in the order of 97% of the feed volume.
the Bio-Filt bioreactor stage sludge output, originating from the spent biomass having a total volume ranging between 3% and 5% of the feed.
vent air and Carbon Hydrates, which can be released into the atmosphere.
The filtrate can be discharged overboard if appropriate. The sludge from the bioreactor is usually stored in tanks for either further treatment/processing or for later disposal. The aerobic biological reduction of waste water contents leads to an increase of bio-mass and also reduces the concentration of Oxygen in the Bio-Filt plant. Both values can be accurately controlled by %u201Con-line%u201D measurement (optical probe) and serve as efficiency indicators of the process.
