International series sailing dinghy : SKIFF Performance sailcraft 2000 29ER
The new, Julian Bethwaite designed, 29er skiff was launched worldwide in 1999 as THE exciting new Youth boat for the 21st century. It is now built in Australia, Argentina, England, South Africa and New Zealand and PS2000 builds the boat for North America, the Caribbean and Bermuda. International acceptance of the boat was assured when ISAF granted the 29er Recognized Status at the November 1999 Annual meeting.
Why another Youth boat?
At the October 1996 ISAF annual meeting, the world body of Yachting selected, after a series of trials, a totally new and exciting type of boat - the 49er - as the new Olympic Class for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. That boat, designed by Julian Bethwaite, brought skiff sailing, for generations the premier sport in Australia, to the rest of the sailing world. At that moment in time, there was no trainer for this boat and the newest ISAF World Youth boat was over 20 years old!
