Sailboat : cruising sailing-yacht Oyster OYSTER 62
She shows good breeding, since there’s clearly a family resemblance to the Oyster 56 and other models in the Oyster range created by Rob Humphrey’s and the Oyster Design Team. In a programme of continuous development, progress is inevitable and the 62, with her twin wheel configuration, takes cockpit space and ease of deck access to a new level. Climbing over tall cockpit coamings is often an issue with yachts of this size but not so with the 62 as there is very easy, safe access from the stern deck.
The 62 has surprised us in having an even more easily driven hull than we anticipated. Performance under power is excellent with 200-mile days in full cruising trim being the norm. As soon as the wind gets to 10 knots or more her long waterline length of almost fifty five feet (16.75m) and clean hull lines provides a dividend that translates into better than expected boat speed on every point of sail. Even in very light airs the 62 remains responsive; while in a full breeze her low centre of gravity bulb keel provides great stability which again produces more performance in a well balanced way.
