The amps measure with a shunt in a positive circuit by a digital instrument is very rare and is non-existent in marine or only by parades which consist to make a negative "return" by the shunt wiring. It is due to the technical difficulty to use a +12V (or +24V) in reference to place of the zero/mass of the battery negative.

The universal ammeter NL227-001 allows an immediate reading of a direct current in Amperes, which results from sources of charge (alternator, battery charger, solar panels, etc.) and consumers in service who discharges the battery. It is the only device which can give an exact measure of an electric DC current.
Using a shunt allowing a hight accuracy for practise this measure. The shunt takes place in the positive circuit to be monitored.
